This page was written for the STEM project by Sammy and Georgie of Year 8 at Holy Family School in Keighley.

We visited the Hands-on-TV Gallery on 13/4/00.

Inside the gallery there is :
The Magic Carpet - This was one of our favourite features. There is a "magic" carpet surrounded by a blue screen and a panel near-by where your friends can choose where you jet off to!This feature uses the chromakey method to project your image onto a background of mountain peaks etc... It is lots of fun!!
Behind the Scenes of "Beauty and the Beast" - Try your own hand at directing!
Here you control one of two cameras from a scene of the all time childrens' favourite Beauty and the Beast.
News Desk - Ever wanted to be a news reader? Well now you can !! Read the latest news then watch watch yourself on TV.(Good Luck!!)

Here are two things we learnt at the Hands-on-TV Gallery that we didn't already know:

1. In 1954 there were 4,600,000 television sets in the UK alone! They were accessable to 46,700,000 people!!

2.The Emitron Camera was hailed as a miracle because it produced top-quality pictures instantly on distant television screens!!

                       THE BIG QUESTION!!
                                                      WHO INVENTED TV?

In Britain we claim that John Logie Baird invented TV.But at the same time other people were working towards the same goal in several other countries :

Paul Nipkow - Germany
Jean Weiller  - France
Karl Braun  - Germany
Boris Rosing  - Russia
Alan Campbell Winton - England
D.Von Mihaly  - Hungary
Charles Francais Jenkins  - America
John Logie Baird  - Scottland
Philo T.Farnsworth  - America
Vladimir Zworykin  - Russia

No single person invented TV. Inventers and scientists around the world built on each others acheivements.Several different TV systems were developed in parallel by various groups and individuals.
